Storytelling
Transition from the dining table to a more relaxed area, like the living room, if possible.
This weeks story to share:
Each Beatitude that Jesus gives is primarily Spiritual in connotation.
“You’re blessed when you feel you’ve lost what is most dear to you. Only then can you be embraced by the One most dear to you." (Matthew 5:4 msg)
Naomi said, “Look, your sister-in-law is going back home to live with her own people and gods; go with her.”
But Ruth said, “Don’t force me to leave you; don’t make me go home. Where you go, I go; and where you live, I’ll live. Your people are my people, your God is my god; where you die, I’ll die, and that’s where I’ll be buried, so help me God—not even death itself is going to come between us!”
When Naomi saw that Ruth had her heart set on going with her, she gave in. And so the two of them traveled on together to Bethlehem.
When they arrived in Bethlehem the whole town was soon buzzing: “Is this really our Naomi? And after all this time!”
But she said, “Don’t call me Naomi; call me Bitter. The Strong One has dealt me a bitter blow. I left here full of life, and God has brought me back with nothing but the clothes on my back. Why would you call me Naomi? God certainly doesn’t. The Strong One ruined me.”
And so Naomi was back, and Ruth the foreigner with her, back from the country of Moab. They arrived in Bethlehem at the beginning of the barley harvest. (Ruth 1:15-22 msg)
Naomi means pleasant. This is who she was before her loss. But after her loss, when people started calling her Naomi she said don't call me that! Call me Mara! Mara means Sorrow, or Grief (this became her identity) Ruth means Friend, companion, vision of beauty!
The Spirit of God, the Master, is on me because God anointed me. He sent me to preach good news to the poor, heal the heartbroken, Announce freedom to all captives, pardon all prisoners. God sent me to announce the year of his grace— a celebration of God’s destruction of our enemies— and to comfort all who mourn, To care for the needs of all who mourn in Zion, give them bouquets of roses instead of ashes, Messages of joy instead of news of doom, a praising heart instead of a languid spirit. Rename them “Oaks of Righteousness” planted by God to display his glory. They’ll rebuild the old ruins, raise a new city out of the wreckage. They’ll start over on the ruined cities, take the rubble left behind and make it new. You’ll hire outsiders to herd your flocks and foreigners to work your fields, But you’ll have the title “Priests of God,” honored as ministers of our God. You’ll feast on the bounty of nations, you’ll bask in their glory. Because you got a double dose of trouble and more than your share of contempt, Your inheritance in the land will be doubled and your joy go on forever. (Isaiah 61:1-7 msg)
When you go through significant loss, its so easy to think your life is over… What else is there to live for? What else can my life become?
Ruth goes to work in the fields of a man named Boaz and through divine appointment she meets him, they fall in love and they end up getting married and having a baby who ends up being KING David’s grandfather!
All you saints! Sing your hearts out to God! Thank him to his face! He gets angry once in a while, but across a lifetime there is only love. The nights of crying your eyes out give way to days of laughter. (Psalm 30:4-5 msg)

What are somethings in your life that defines who you are?
2. Don’t Let It Make You Bitter At God
Why do we blame God for things that go wrong in our lives?
3. Don’t Forget Tomorrow Is Coming
How do we encourage others as they go through grief? How do we support them until "tomorrow comes"?

Ask if anyone has additional thoughts or questions about the story or points. Close with an appropriate prayer time based on the faith level of those there tonight.
